Araucaria luxurians connaissance
This is a columnar tree growing up to 30 meters tall with very dense foliage. The species is predominately found in the southern half of the island, but there is an outlying record from the Belep island in the north. It occurs on ultramafic soils on steep coastal slopes. The decorative nature of its dense foliage has resulted in widespread cultivation and locally use as an ornamental tree. It is also often used as a Christmas tree. Natural populations are under constant threat of anthropogenic fire and mining activities. IUCN conservation Red List status: Endangered
